KaLai Lam-Cheng arrived from Costa Rica in February 2010 as a student visitor to complete her B.Sc. degree in Biotechnology Engineering from the Instituto Tecnológico de Costa Rica. Currently she is a Master’s student in the Horticulture and Agronomy Graduate Group. Her research project studies the regulation of tomato fruit photosynthesis and its importance in fruit quality. She is particularly interested in the tomato GOLDEN2-LIKE (GLK) transcription factors, which are required for chloroplast biogenesis. KaLai collaborated in the discovery of the GLKs in tomato and she is currently studying their role in fruit development and their potential to improve tomato agronomical traits.
